Parahumans super-powered humans. While once a minority, parahumans today are the majority, comprising about 80% of the population. As the number of humans with expressed powers (more colloquially referred to as quirks) increases, society too must adjust. What are quirks? How do they work? Where do they come from?

Taylor triggers with . . . a slightly different power. She can convince people to see her differently. She does.

A game will be played. And it will leave a mess in its wake. A game of life and death at their absolute extremes. A game of Eight Heroes trying to claim the Ultimate Reward.

But the game is yet to be played, it's too soon, as the Players aren't ready, and their guardians are scattered, some yet to even meet their wards. Besides, Agents must be employed to both set it up and clean after it.

And so we watch a 1997s Brockton Bay serve as an initial stage. Where both the misplaced Agents and the guardians would converge.
