This is a canon-compliant telling of certain events that took place in and around the UK during the 2000s and early 2010s.

Worm left a few hints on the state of the UK, and we’ll be picking them up here. We start in 2005, two years after the Simurgh’s attack on London. As it was her second appearance, the containment measures were almost non-existant.

We know from Worm that String Theory, Teacher, plus a few others had pretty major effects on life in GB+NI, I hope to pick them up in the strictest accordance with canon.

Brockton Bay has seen plenty of Tinkers, but surprisingly few proper Mad Scientists. Doctor Ophiuchus, fresh off their trigger event, seeks to fix this deficit.

Sometimes circumstances conspire to leave wrongs unrighted and the balance askew. Being unavenged is a terrible thing, so if none will bring justice on your behalf, it may enter ones mind to simply take care of it oneself, and circumstances may be such that the perfect tool is simply handed to one…

So, I’ve had an idea. A writing game, more or less. In this game, every chapter will be written by a different author, to be chosen anonymously and posted to the storyline. The anonymous part isn’t me being greedy for likes - it was requested on the Discord, as a way to increase participation and decrease trolls.

This story chain will follow an OC (to avoid complaints about accuracy of depiction), a Case 53 with no backstory to recall and plenty of things to branch out into, so that writers can more easily go in different directions.

Where the falling Entity meets the rising ape, there’s bound to be plenty of punes, and plays on Worm.

Taylor and Lisa, after shenanigans that led to them being planted in another dimension almost forty years in the past…have settled down. Had their fun. Done their time…and had a daughter of their very own.

Now, its Hermione Hebert’s turn to shine in the spotlight…hopefully, not quite as brightly as her mother and father did. She isn’t that type of girl!

Taylor’s the goddess of Darkness, successor to Dracul. Dragon’s the goddess of Light. Amy’s a vampire. Scion’s dead. Gold Morning was named Ragnarok here. FTL drive is called Vista Drive. Worship of dragons is taking off. Vampires are rare, but a thing, and demons are signing up for the Protectorate.

And Scionites are basically religious fanatics convinced he’s going to come back and finish what he started, convinced he’ll smite all their enemies, and bring them everything they ever wanted. There’s very few, but there’s enough to cause problems in places.

Taylor has the ability to craft SCPs, granted to due some shenanigans that will be revealed later.

While she is the one driving the events of the story, she will not be the focus. Instead, this story will be done through the lens of a few members of Brockton Bay’s PRT staff.

Taylor triggers with Thinker/Striker/Trump powers similar to Teacher, but with a much stronger Master component. After a midnight chat with a mysterious woman in a fedora, Taylor begins the process of taking over both the legal and illegal sides of Brockton Bay, one convert at a time. Still, the ever-slippery Tattletale continues to elude her. As the shadowy mastermind Schola, Taylor plans to ensure that the warring factions in Brockton Bay come to a reasonable, peaceful resolution of their various grievances. If they can’t learn to cooperate, though, Taylor is more than willing to teach them.

Sparks do not understand the concept of overkill or restraint.

What would happen if a young Taylor Hebert didn’t receive a Tinker’s agent, but instead ignited a spark?
Tonight, and for the period that I can stick at a keyboard, Taylor Hebert is a ‘Madgirl in a Wormverse’.

So, this story features Taylor as protagonist, within an alternative universe of Worm. She also has an alternative power. Instead of insect control, she is a tinker focused on simplistic disposable minions.

Shigeo Kageyama was more or less comfortable with what his plan was. Keep himself under control, make new friends, and have fun with his family in Brockton Bay.

Brockton Bay, after a while, decides that it’s a bad plan.

As a kid you wanted to be a Hero … which is now harder because standing in front of you is the human-scaled Simurgh giving you the shovel talk, claiming that if you do anything to hurt her siblings she would make your life a hell worse than it already is. Funny. You called the PRT and the hotline lady thought you were pulling her leg.

You would be doing some underage drinking right now if it weren’t for the fact that even if you could get a fake driver’s license you didn’t even have the cash in the first place.

So instead you have decided to do something you should have done for a whole month: go out and do your first patrol.

The host thread writes the trigger event.

After the character is created in the shard thread, the host thread will create a trigger event. Configure is a shard specialized in creating, tweaking, and adjusting powers, and more often than not will include those abilities in the powers it grants its host. But a strong foundation must still be made before any shenanigans can be built on top, and the trigger event will affect how the power is applied and expressed. It’s impossible to precisely determine the outcome of a trigger event (translation: don’t try to design the power itself), but clearly defined trigger events often have predictable tendencies. For instance, a trigger defined by social isolation will always result in powers with a strong Master component, and so on. You can even go for a multitrigger if you like. Just keep in mind that, no, you can’t have the clusterfuck trigger mindmeld a la Rain O’Fire, and also your cluster mates aren’t controllable characters. Aiming for multiple power categories is also a possibility. Second triggers are not something you can actively decide on, although a sufficiently severe trigger event might result in a second trigger.

The shard thread writes the backstory of the host.

Pretty much anything goes in this case, as long as it isn’t physically impossible for the setting. The host must be an unpowered person in the city of Brockton Bay, in Earth Bet, at a time no later than the date Worm starts on. Original characters are allowed, within reason. Entire families can be invented wholesale, and even entire streets, as long as they conform to the vaguely defined geography of Brockton Bay and don’t contradict anything that already exists. OC parahumans, on the other hand, aren’t allowed; you can use existing parahumans in the unpowered host’s backstory, as long as it’s reasonable and doesn’t contradict canon. The host can belong to whatever organizations they could reasonably access given their location, disposition, resources, age, and so on. Feel free to include details such as lifestyle, personality, hobbies, friendships, career, education, and whatnot. Anything that’s important to the character will, more likely than not, have at least a passing importance to the story.
